A Review of Low Power Wide Area Technology in Licensed and Unlicensed Spectrum for IoT Use Cases

    Get PDF
There are many platforms in licensed and license free spectrum that support LPWA (low power wide area) technology in the current markets. However, lack of standardization of the different platforms can be a challenge for an interoperable IoT environment. Therefore understanding the features of each technology platform is essential to be able to differentiate how the technology can be matched to a specific IoT application profile. This paper provides an analysis of LPWA underlying technology in licensed and unlicensed spectrum by means of literature review and comparative assessment of Sigfox, LoRa, NB-IoT and LTE-M. We review their technical aspect and discussed the pros and cons in terms of their technical and other deployment features. General IoT application requirements is also presented and linked to the deployment factors to give an insight of how different applications profiles is associated to the right technology platform, thus provide a simple guideline on how to match a specific application profile with the best fit connectivity features

Does Competition Matter in The Malaysian Banking System?

    Get PDF
The transition from financial repression to financial liberalization, which led to cross-border capital flows and the expansion of the financial sector, has had a significant impact on the global financial market. Competition could pass through or interact with the impact of financial liberalization on financial stability. A liberalized banking sector prompted commercial banks to intensify risk-taking activities, which ultimately could affect financial stability.  This paper examines the effect of financial liberalization on financial stability and the roles of competition as the interacting variable using a panel data analysis based on a sample of 43 banks in Malaysia.  Results from the Malaysian banking sector indicate that increased competition will affect the stability of the financial system. Lastly, competition needs to be set at the best possible level so that financial stability can be well preserved

Study on the liability of pharmacists in Malaysia according to the statistic in 2004, there are 4613 registered pharmacists. Problem arise is that pharmacists are now selling medication without prescription and the offences are increasing from years to years. This project paper will be looking at the various legislations to pharmacists such as Poison Act 1952, Registration of Pharmacists Act 1951, Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Sales of Drugs Act 1952, Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulation 1984 and etc. this act is used because to looks at the regulations relating to duties, liabilities and offences if they breach their duties. However, all this Acts regulated since the year of 1951. Therefore, the amendment with regard to certain provisions needs to be made to fit it with the recent situation. The certain sections should be repeal such as to increase the amount of penalties, to conduct a training to improve and exposed them with the information, knowledge and skills needed. There are some provision must be add in relating to their Code of Conduct in the Act

What is Vision School? Regarding to statement of Deputy Minister of Education. Dato' Hon Choon Kim, Vision School is a program to bring a unity and a better relationship between student from different race in a school including from different stream. This program is still under implementation. There are two Vision Schools to be built in Subang Jaya and Johore Bahru. In this program, there are consist of three school buildings that combine Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan, Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SRJKC) and Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SRJKT) in one area. They share same facilities like canteen, hall, field and others. Suggestion to generate Visison Schools had been agreed by MCA and MIC. However five schools of Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SRJKC) that had been offered to carry out Vision Schools but they refused the offer, one in Johore, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and two in Perak. The implementation of Vision School becomes a very sensitive issue when Dong Jiao Zong or Federated Society Manageress of Chinese School and Federated Society of Chinese School Teachers object the implementation of Vision School. They worried about missing of characteristics and identity of Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SRJKC) although government gives statement that the identity will not be affected. Now that the government has agreed to builts the (2) schools, the project should be implemented as soon as possible. The main objective towards the implementation of Vision School is to bring out a better relationship in our community. We just wait and see either the objective towards the implementation of Vision School will be achives or not. So, many party have to involve to achives the objective and the implementation of Vision School will be succeed

A semantic ontology for disaster trail management system

Disasters, whether natural or human-made, leave a lasting impact on human lives and require mitigation measures. In the past, millions of human beings lost their lives and properties in disasters. Information and Communication Technology provides many solutions. The issue of so far developed disaster management systems is their inefficiency in semantics that causes failure in producing dynamic inferences. Here comes the role of semantic web technology that helps to retrieve useful information. Semantic web-based intelligent and self-administered framework utilizes XML, RDF, and ontologies for a semantic presentation of data. The ontology establishes fundamental rules for data searching from the unstructured world, i.e., the World Wide Web. Afterward, these rules are utilized for data extraction and reasoning purposes. Many disaster-related ontologies have been studied; however, none conceptualizes the domain comprehensively. Some of the domain ontologies intend for the precise end goal like the disaster plans. Others have been developed for the emergency operation center or the recognition and characterization of the objects in a calamity scene. A few ontologies depend on upper ontologies that are excessively abstract and are exceptionally difficult to grasp by the individuals who are not conversant with theories of the upper ontologies. The present developed semantic web-based disaster trail management ontology almost covers all vital facets of disasters like disaster type, disaster location, disaster time, misfortunes including the causalities and the infrastructure loss, services, service providers, relief items, and so forth. The objectives of this research were to identify the requirements of a disaster ontology, to construct the ontology, and to evaluate the ontology developed for Disaster Trail Management. The ontology was assessed efficaciously via competency questions; externally by the domain experts and internally with the help of SPARQL queries

On the robustness of measurement of reliability stopping criterion in turbo iterative decoding

    Get PDF
Measurement of reliability (MOR) stopping criterion is able to terminate early in the low and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) while maintaining the bit error rate (BER) performance. However, the performance of MOR is only based on one code structure and hence, the robustness of MOR is still unknown in turbo iterative decoding. Thus, this paper will test the robustness of MOR based on the following parameters: frame size, code structure, channel reliability and code rate. Then, we analyse and compare the average iteration number (AIN) and the BER performance of MOR with the benchmark stopping criterion known as Genie to determine the robustness of MOR. From the analysis, MOR has a BER degradation for low code rate. MOR also fails to perform well if the corret channel reliability is not available at the receiver and this results a large degradation in BER performance. However, MOR has close performance to Genie in terms of BER for various frame sizes, code structures and high code rate with the assistance of correct channel reliability. MOR is also able to save AIN at low SNR as compared to Genie and this can reduce delay and complexity of turbo codes
